I’M GOING TO BARBADOS!
It’s not official yet, but that’s the plan. With your help, my goal is to raise at least $250 to participate in Atlantic Impact’s youth empowerment trip to Barbados this summer!
Who Am I?
I’m a writer, traveler, and community organizer. Having traveled extensively through Latin America and the Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Chile, Guatemala, and Colombia), Barbados is now calling my name! In Barbados, I will blog about my experiences on angelictruth.wordpress.com, and participate in activities to empower high school students from urban communities. To know more about me and my work, subscribe to my blog and follow me on Twitter/Instagram @truthtravelista.
Why do I want to help urban youth travel abroad?
Travel is a HUGE way for urban kids of color to see their relevance in the world. It combats the alienation that Black and Brown youth often experience in the U.S., where they are constantly reminded of their status as minorities or the disadvantaged "other". Travel, particularly to non-European countries, dismantles such “minority/other” myths. It gives students a sense of identity that can navigate their lives not just as Americans of color, but as members of global African, Asian, and Latin populations with unique histories and cultures.
How can you help?
I’m asking friends, family, and supporters to help sponsor my trip. Whoever raises the most funding will win the trip challenge, and 2nd place will go to a participant to raises at least $250. So fam, I have to raise at least $250! We can make it happen ;)
Lastly, anyone can join my team to raise money. Just let me know if you are interested. Thank you in advance! I appreciate all the love and support.
