BENEFITING: Western Sustainability Exchange
The Young Entrepreneurial Stewardship (YES) Program teaches children the basics of business, the importance of giving back to their communities, and the responsibility of environmental stewardship. In short, we help kids grow a green biz!
We need your support to change the lives of 100 children by raising $10,000 for the YES Program. Help us reach our goal!
With your tax-deductible donation, we will:
- Teach kids about business in a fun environment
- Mentor young entrepreneurs to sell original products at the farmers market
- Design training curriculums to replicate YES programs in other communities
More About YES:
Western Sustainability Exchange (WSE) started the YES program simply by allowing kids to sell goods at our farmers market in Livingston, Montana. The idea took root and grew.
Today, the YES program engages children in afterschool clubs, summer camp, and the summer farmers market. These activities are not only fun for kids, they can also be life changing. We believe the YES program helps break the cycle of poverty that so many children face in rural communities. Over 40% of our participants come from low-income families, and we give them the tools they need to run a business in a low-risk and fun setting.
YES Clubs – Throughout the school year, we organize afterschool YES Clubs. Through a series of activities, the kids envision a business idea doing something they love. Then we teach them business fundamentals like product development, financing, and salesmanship. We stress the value of “green” business practices like conserving energy, reducing waste, and using sustainably produced raw materials. We also stress the importance of being a good citizen by contributing some of their profits to causes they care about.
$500 supports 1 child in YES Club.
YES Camp – WSE also operates a 2-week summer camp. The camp echoes the curriculum of the YES Clubs, but also gives kids a chance to work together, which makes it easier to start that first business! They focus on a business they could run at a farmers market: they design it, learn how to finance it, and work on marketing and merchandising plans. At the end of camp, kids leave with a fundamental business plan.
$100 supports 1 child in YES Camp.
YES Booths – When the businesses are ready, WSE offers kids the chance to put their ideas into practice immediately by operating a YES Booth at the Livingston Farmers Market. We also organize special Kids Days throughout the summer to focus attention on our Young Entrepreneurs.
$25 supports a YES Booth for 1 child for the whole season.
Year-Round Mentoring - Our YES kids gain real-world experience by learning business basics, creating “green” products and services, and earning money. They also experience the joy of donating some of their booth fees to a charity of their choice. By encouraging these young entrepreneurs now, we believe they will become valuable contributors to their local economy and influential voices for the stewardship of beautiful Montana.
$1,000 supports Year-Round Mentoring for 1 child.
Training Curriculum – With enough support, we can create curriculum materials so our program can be replicated in other communities. The curriculum would include training videos and worksheets. We know we’re not the only place on earth that strives to conserve its beautiful natural heritage while sustaining a viable way of life. The YES program is a valuable tool to help communities inspire their own young entrepreneurs and strengthen their local economies.
$2,000 supports the development of Training Curriculum.
