When have you, or someone you love, lost a friend, brother or sister to violent crimes, drug abuse or terrorism? Never, I hope. But if you have know that we are grieving together. I'm sure we would all like it to live in a better world, a safe environment. Then lets start with addressing youth unemployment.
In a developing country such as Kenya, youth are experiencing much higher unemployment rates than the rest of the Kenyan population. In 2005/06, youths aged 15-19 and 20-24 years had unemployment rates of 25 percent and 24 percent, respectively—about double the overall unemployment of 12.7 percent for the entire working-age group.
Youth LITE Kenya is facilitating a 7 week program. During the program students are engaged in tackling projects offered by partner companies. The cycle of the program engages participating students creative workshops where they Ideate, employ human-centered design thinking, refine ideas, engage in a playful challenge and are coached by thought leaders in the field.
Our unique 7 weeks model, encourages participating students to work quickly to gather and analyze data, then move rapidly to solutions, prototypes and plans. The timeframe is long enough to gain good understanding of the problem, yet short enough to allow a team to gather limited resources against a challenge. I call that developing an entrepreneurial mindset. Our format prompts new thinking, it inspires an entrepreneurial culture and employs the spirit of Harambee, the spirit of togetherness in addressing problems.
Will you help? We would appreciate your donation of $25, or whatever you feel you can afford to help us facilitate our program..
