Youth Photography Project
Organized by: Deb Barry
After years of having working with children and youth across the world, we (Nicole Bohl and Deb Barry) have seen how powerful it is when they are given the opportunity to share their stories and realities - both within their communities and countries, as well as globally.
We have now piloted a participatory photography project, where adolescents are taught photography and are empowered to share their realities and ideas. Through photography exhibitions, campaigns or social media, adolescents can raise issues and advocate for changes they want to see.
In Egypt where we have implemented a project, we have witnessed the possiblities of this approach. Government officials who came to see the exhibition were moved by photographs and words the adolescents used. As a consquence, they committed to providing support to adolescents who wanted to return to school and those wishing to take vocational training courses in tailoring.

Overall, we passonionately believe in the power of storytelling. We intend to create a platform where youth from across the world can exchange their photographs and stories - this will give you an opportunity to get unique insight into everyday life of adolescents in other countries.
