BENEFITING: YOUNG SURVIVAL COALITION INC
EVENT DATE: Apr 27, 2014
This April I plan to run the 2014 OKC Memorial Marathon. I finished my first half marathon in November and had never run more than a 5K at the start of 2013. Keeping with the spirit of this race I plan to raise money for an organization near and dear to my heart, so I'd like to give you a little background on the cause and why I run.
At the age of 49 my mom was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer (triple-negative). She had always been active and at the time of her diagnosis she had just finished her first half-marathon. Back then I was totally awestruck by that distance. Throughout her illness she received incredible support from the cycling and running community as well as from a non-profit known as Young Survival Coalition (YSC). YSC is instrumental in raising awareness about and providing resources for young women battling breast cancer.

Since my mom passed running has granted me a lot of peace and is a really special way for me to remember her. What I hope to do is take the love I have for her and spread it around to other women facing the same challenges.
Thank you so much for your support!
