I'd like to thank you once more for your generous donation for Harley Helping Hands. I surpassed my goal and raised close to $700 to help brain cancer fighters and their families.

Many of you were tracking my marathon progress on Sunday and I had an amazing time for the first 14 miles. After that point, my calf muscles cramped up and it was difficult to run or walk. I stopped several times and I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to finish. However, I realized that I had a lot of family and friends tracking me around the country, Colombia - and even a college friend from El Salvador. I also thought about all of you and your support for my fund-raising efforts, along with all the brain cancer fighters. I knew then that I HAD to finish the race even if that meant I had to crawl to the finish line. I saw my supportive husband, mother and sister once again at mile 25 and they cheered me on one last time. I pushed on and just as I was approaching the finish line (400 meters to be exact), I could feel my legs cramping up again. I thought that was nuts, I was so close!!! And then the "Rocky" theme song started playing (as if completely planned) and the crowd got louder and louder as I got closer to the finish. I barely managed to touch the finish line mat and BAM! both legs cramped up immediately. It was as if everyone go me there, just barely, but got me there collectively! I had an EMT guy help me walk the rest of the way and I cramped up again as I walked the few blocks to meet my family and running club friends.

This was such an amazing experience and there were lots of people pushing me from afar to help me finish this race. The best news in all of this craziness is that my team of 32 marathon runners raised over $35,000 to support brain cancer fighters. I learned the names of 7 local families who have already been notified they will be receiving monetary donations from the Harley Helping Hands marathon efforts - THANK YOU for your support!

I'm happy that I finished my second Chicago marathon and I was able to get a new personal record by 31 minutes -which is fantastic considering my painful situation. I'm doing much better now, I sat in meetings the last two days for work which didn't help a whole lot but it's getting easier to go up and down the stairs at home. I'm not ready to sign up for another marathon quite yet but I'll be running a 5K race this Sunday =)

All the best, Yvette
