BENEFITING: YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago
ORGANIZER: YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago
EVENT: Purple Purse Challenge
While living in Kalamazoo, Michigan I volunteered as a Victim Advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assualt with the Kalamazoo YWCA. These experiences had a profound impact on my life, my understanding of these issues and my respect for the indvidiuals who are survivors of these crimes.
When I moved to Chicago, I knew I had to remain involved with the YWCA in some form. The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago proved open and welcoming and I have remained involved in various capacities since. The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago is the largest provider of sexual assault support services in the state of Illinois, offering crisis intervention, counseling, prevention education and medical and legal advocacy services. They also offer career, financial management and business services to help women achieve financial stability and obtain training to enter non-traditional careers and provide young women STEM education in our TechGYRLS program.
Over the past two years I have had the distince privelege of serving as a member of the Futuer Leaders Council. In this position I have helped fundraise to support the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago's work, as well as volunteered directly to support their various programs. I have seen firsthand the postitve outcomes of their involvement in people's lives and the broader communities in which they serve. Their staff and volunteers are tireless advocates and I can confidently say that the work they do is priceless. That said, their ability to continue to do this work and expand their services is encumbent on the financial support of those who support their efforts and that is why I am writing you today.
Please help support the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago in our efforst to win the grand prize of the 2015 All State Foundation's Purple Purse Challenge. The organization that raises the most during the Challenge will get a $100,000 donation for their cause. Second place gets $75,000, third gets $50,000, fourth gets $25,000 and fifth place gets a $20,000 donation. I am ready to raise as much money as I can for the YWCA so we can win the $100,000 grand prize. Please join me and thank you, sincerely, for your support.
