EVENT: Purple Purse Challenge
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2015
The YWCA Oklahoma City dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice and dignity for all. We are the only certified shelter In Oklahoma County providing services and programs to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Funds raised during the Purple Purse Challenge will go toward lifesaving services and programs for women and children affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
Oklahoma is currently ranked 6th in the nation for the number of women killed by men during domestic violence incidents. In 2014, YWCA advocates, counselors, nurses, prevention education and outreach specialists provided lifesaving services to over 24,045 individuals. We served 3,081 clients directly and an additional 20,964 individuals through our crisis hotlines, prevention education and outreach efforts.
After a 3 year, $15 million capital campaign, we are proud to announce we are opening the new Thelma Gaylord Emergency Shelter. The new shelter will provide a safe haven, therapeutic services for women and children, and support for Oklahoma families as they overcome domestic violence.
