BENEFITING: YWCA Northeastern NY
EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2016
Domestic Violence victims often don’t leave because their abuser withholds money, takes their paycheck, doesn’t allow the victim to work, or otherwise keeps the victim dependent on them financially.
Raising funds helps the YWCA Northeastern NY deliver valuable services and tools for many of these domestic violence victims and their families. Funding is used to provide financial literacy tools, housing, financial assistance with debts like national grid, transportation options, securing important documents needed to gain housing, jobs, and benefits, and most of all peace of mind and safety.
In addition to providing services and valuable life sustaining needs, this funding bridges the gap for so many causes. Domestic violence victims who don’t have access to valuable tools, resources, services and knowledgeable staff often decline into poverty because they lose income from job loss or losing their partners income. Victims often are limited in gaining healthy food sources for their children. They may not know how to access valuable benefits, or be aware of food pantries or even have funds to purchase food from the market. Dangerously, victims of domestic violence and their children are at high risk for homelessness because they must flee their homes and enter shelters or crowd into temporary living conditions with friends. They often don’t have the financial means to begin the housing process over with first month’s rent and security. And sadly, many victims of domestic violence and their children are too often forced to enter mental health facilities or counseling due to PTSD, TBI, or other trauma induced diagnosis. And let’s not forget the animals that many times have to be left behind for the abuser to mistreat.
Your Donation will help! Please give hope, stability, and peace of mind to a family to get safe housing, keep their pets from being misused by the abuser, and provide nutritious meals.
