Did you make sure you had your cell phone before walking out the door today?
Did you make sure you locked your front door to your warm, cozy home?
Did you have a fresh hot cup of coffee as you drove to work?
While many of us are worried about cell phones and what size coffee to get, domestic violence victims are fighting to survive. 1 out of 4 women face domestic violence in their lifetime and 98% of these women are severely affected by financial abuse. Their abuser harasses them at work to get them fired, their abuser refuses to care for the children so she must call in to work once again, the abuser often runs up debt in her name as a source of punishment for leaving or as a means to keep her with him. She may not have income to leave because she knows the hidden rule if she seeks to work outside the home….
The end result is that financial abuse is a major obstacle for these women to obtain affordable housing because a credit check reveals their debt, having no job means they are forced out of their homes in foreclosure or eviction procedures, no income source means that they will lose their cell phone, the electric will be turned off, and there will be no food to eat.
These are the daily obstacles that domestic violence victims have to face.
YOU can help them to gain resources to move toward self-sufficiency by donating today!
