The YWCA of Wausau is proud to be a part of the Purple Purse Challenge for the first time!
Did you know…
Domestic violence affects one in four women in her lifetime – that’s more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined.
Most people think only of physical abuse when they consider domestic violence, yet financial abuse happens in 99% of all domestic violence cases.
The number one reason domestic violence survivors stay or return to an abusive relationship is that they don’t have the financial resources to break free.
Physical abuse leaves bruises and scars. Financial abuse is an invisible weapon that traps victims in abusive relationships.
What is the Purple Purse?
The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is the longest running national campaign focused on ending domestic violence through a proven solution: financial empowerment services for survivors. They’ve invested over $50 million and helped more than 800,000 survivors recover their financial independence and break the cycle of domestic violence.
This year, YWCA Wausau is taking part in the Purple Purse Challenge, putting us in the running to win $650,000 grant money to help fund domestic violence prevention and awareness programs at the YWCA and the Women’s Community.
How you can help
Join our team and help us raise money so we can help women end the cycle of financial abuse and domestic violence! You can use your network to help spread the word and raise funds for this amazing cause. The more money we can raise, the more women we can help, and the better our chances are to win a grant from the Purple Purse Challenge.
