The YWCA believes that no child should drown. Yet, Hispanic youth are twice as likely to drown as other children because of language and cost barriers to swimming lessons.
The YWCA created Los Pecesitos ("Little Fishes") as a free Spanish-language swimming education program. The program has a waiting list each year and near perfect attendance rates. For $117 a child can learn to swim, drastically reducing their liklihood of drowning and setting them up for a lifetime of wellness.
The children of the YWCA's Tsunami Swim Team heard about this and wanted to help!
They have decided to host a Swim-a-Thon in order to raise funds for 50 children to participate in Los Pecesitios this summer. They will be swimming laps based on the funds raised.
Please join us to reduce the drown rate of children in Oklahoma!
