On March 17, 2013, I will be running in the LA Marathon to raise money for Grassroot Soccer, a non-profit which uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire and mobilize youth to stay HIV/AIDS free. I have been training for this event throughout my travels (since November!) in parts of Europe, Africa and North America. It was in Africa that I met a handful of inspiring young people who worked for Grassroot Soccer. Their dedication to the organization, a visit to a GRS site in Khayelitsha, and their help in making my stay in Cape Town so memorable motivated me to join the GRS family. I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event. I have two ambitious goals―first to complete the run, and second to meet my personal goal of raising at least $1000. I would greatly appreciate your consideration by making a donation of $10 or $20 toward this goal. All donations are, of course, tax deductible. While young people in Africa have been the hardest hit by AIDS, they are also the greatest force for change. Through their innovative approach, Grassroot Soccer is empowering youth with the knowledge, skills and support they need to break the cycle of AIDS. GRS has graduated over 500,000 youth from their proven program, and by the next World Cup in 2014, they hope to double that number. You can make a difference...please join me in supporting a very important cause. Thank you so much for your support! Big hugs!
