I'm running in Bay to Breakers for Nancy!

Nancy is a 1st year student at Daraja Academy, a free secondary school in Kenya for girls born into material poverty. She is of the Kikuyu tribe, and grew up in Molo.

Nancy was interviewed recently so you could get to know her in her own words:

What’s your family background? “My father is jobless, but my mother is a farmer. My brothers are cashier workers and my sisters are housewives. I have three brothers and four sisters.”

Where would you be without Daraja? “I would have repeated class 8 to see if I have any other means to go secondary school.” What do you want for your future? I want to be a doctor.”

What changes do you want to see in your community? “I would like to educate girls about the importance of education, so that they may become self-reliant in the future.”

What does courage mean to you? “The ability to overcome fear and all the difficult situations in life.”

Help me support Nancy's education, and the education of other Daraja girls like her!
