Zared for Camp Abilities
Organized by: Bari Wexler
EVENT DATE May 04, 2014
Dear Family & Friends,
On Sunday, May 4th I'll be hosting a Family Fun Sports Day at Turf Time in Rochester, NY. This event is a fundraiser for Camp Abilities and is an important part of my becoming a Bar Mitzvah. Camp Abilities is a week-long developmental sports camp for kids with visual impairments which is held at SUNY Brockport the first week of July every summer. Dr. Lauren Lieberman, the camp's founder, is my father's friend and mentor. She invited me to the Camp Abilities mini-camp over this past February school break. I got to volunteer for the day and work with a boy my age who is visually impaired. I played "Goal Ball" & "Beep Baseball" with an eye mask on so I could get a sense of what my partner experiences when he plays sports. We even did some ice skating together.
Participating in sports is a big part of my life, and I think Camp Abilities is a really great program because it allows kids who are blind, visually impaired or deafblind to learn how to do sports and also have an awesome summer camp experience.
Please join me and my family for the Family Fun Sports Day Fundraiser on May 4th at Turf Time between 10:00am & 2:00pm! Bring your entire family AND your friends for a day of friendly sports & games, food, drinks, prizes and disability awareness.
By making a donation here to Camp Abilities, you will receive a ticket to attend our EXCITING, FUN, FEEL-GOOD event on May 4th! I'd like to suggest a donation of $10 per person, or $25 per entire family. If you can't make the event, and would still like to donate, I'd be grateful for anything you'd like to contribute!
