BENEFITING: National Coalition for Homeless Veterans
Thank you all for your support and generosity! Until the next race...
Your donation will help support The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), an organization that empowers groups all over the country working to best serve veterans, as well as provide preventative support to returning and at-risk veterans in need.
Why am I committed to help?
My “why” is running to raising awareness and funds for an organization that helps at-risk and homeless veterans who need our support. My dad, Dave Rusinack, is also my motivation. He is a Vietnam veteran; he was drafted and served in the Army from 1966-69, working as a chief flight mechanic on chinook helicopters.
Vietnam veterans were a generation of soldiers who had no crowd to greet their safe returns, and had little to no support system helping with reintegration into society. Despite those odds, my dad was able to work hard to build a good life for himself and his family. Sadly not all who return are so fortunate. Nearly half of homeless veterans served in Vietnam, and this is a problem that continues to affect veterans old and new. Although flawless counts are impossible to come by – the transient nature of homeless populations presents a major difficulty – the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimates that 49,933 veterans are homeless on any given night.
Please donate to support homeless and at-risk veterans.
Mission: NCHV will end homelessness among veterans by shaping public policy, promoting collaboration, and building the capacity of service providers.
