Zhana's social cafe
Organized by: Zhana Odiashvili
I was born and grew up in a small town called Gori in Georgia.(A small country situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia). After graduating from high school I moved to the capital city of Tbilisi and my life has dramatically changed since then. Tbilisi is definitely an active city with many opportunities regarding studies, jobs, social life while young people in Gori are absolutely devoid of above mentioned possibilities. That is the solid reason why a great majority of Gori youth leave their home town in order to seek for better chances in a capital city and only few move back afterwards. In my opinion urbanization should be considered as a serious and urgent problem in this case because a great number of people prefer to stay in the capital city and this process causes various problems. Also, working as a tour guide with tourists I have to sadly admit that Gori is still associated only with Soviet leader Stalin which is an extremely disappointing fact. Although Gori is a small town it certainly has a promising potential to advance. Furthermore support and encouragement is crucial for the success of local initiatives. I aim to open up a social cafe which will be a central hub in Gori. It will function as a bar, cafe, space for sharing the knowledge and ideas. My previous experience and enthusiasm give me confidence that I will bring a valuable contribution to my community. My goal is to promote volunteerism, traveling, healthy lifestyle, civil activism, decrease the level of unemployment, etc. therefore I am totally convinced this initiative is very important and significant start for the following development of Gori.I was living, volunteering and traveling in Europe for a year which played a big role in my life and way of thinking. The experience and skills I acquired abroad will surely help me achieve the goal I set and establish a social cafe in Gori with a motto of " Sharing is caring". It will operate as a social club where we organize different events to raise money for charity, concerts to help newborn musicians become more popular, language exchange clubs, free library, excursions to different regions of Georgia, a walking tour in Gori for tourists, internship opportunities for young people, lectures about different topics etc. To briefly sum up it will be a friendly space where everybody is invited to make a difference. The local community will obviously benefit from this project as this idea intends to create job opportunities, improve English level, raise awareness about volunteerism and social activism, provide free trainings and workshops, invite guests to conduct lectures, develop tourism. Of course I realize it is a quite difficult task I desire to achieve but a great deal of motivation inspires me to follow my dream. I believe in your kindness and fingers crossed my goal will be achieved successfully.
