THE STORY:

This website is mainly a place for me to keep family and friends updated on what I am doing during my gap year. Any donations towards my fund for programs, flights, visa's and more is greatly appreciated but my goal is just to share my experiences of this year.

First, I will go to Cuenca, Ecuador and live with my older brother and his family for three months to study Spanish and teach English at a local school; as well as experiencing the local culture and exploring popular Ecuadorian spots! I will be studying at the Yanapuma Spanish School every morning (http://www.yanapumaspanish.org/) and teaching English at an after-school program in San Joaquín, a small hillside town outside of Cuenca.

Then, after coming home to spend the holidays with my family, I will head to Suva, Fiji on January 17th with the Frontier Organization. I will stay there for three months, living with a Fijian host family, and earning my TEFL qualification within the "Fijian Teaching Program". I will teach English to primary students, and gain valuable hands on classroom time, along with working with other volunteers to create our own lesson plans and travel among the various Fijian Islands! For the final leg in my gap year, I will be traveling to Surin, Thailand on April 25 with the BVOL Organization. I will stay in Thailand for two months, working around 200 elephants at an Elephant Sanctuary. I will work specifically with 12 elephants, helping to take care of them (washing, feeding, walking ect.), along with helping educate local communities on ending the practice of using elephants for street begging and circus shows, and providing a more sustainable and natural use for the elephants. I will return to Seattle June 19th, with lots of stories to share and a greater understanding for cultures around the world. From there I'll get ready to start studying toward my Elementary Education major at Montana State!
