With your help, I hope to create a sustainable clean-water business in a Ghanaian village and bring clean water to 700-1000 people this summer!
Read below to find out more about this project and why the organization I'm working with is different than most!
I am very excited to tell you that I will be working as a fellow this summer with the non-profit , Community Water Solutions (CWS)! CWS is an organization that partners with rural communities in the Northern Region of Ghana to establish sustainable water treatment businesses. These businesses are owned and operated by the women of the communities, and use simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution and storage of clean drinking water. The maintenance and operation of these water treatment businesses is continually funded by revenue from the sale of drinking water (making them SUSTAINABLE even after we leave), while the capital necessary to establish them initially is donated by CWS and its fellows (which is what I need YOUR help with!)
Every fall, spring, and summer, CWS sends selected fellows down to Ghana to work in groups of four to implement the clean water business in a rural village. The organization was established in 2008 and since that time has successfully implemented water treatment businesses in 35 communities in Ghana, providing reliable sources of clean water to over 22,000 people! What makes CWS unique is that, unlike most other organizations, it establishes for-profit water businesses that are owned and operated by the communities using low-cost local technologies, allowing for a true sustainable source of clean water. CWS also works to especially target and empower the women of rural villages, by training them to use the technologies and run the business after the fellows leave.
As a fellow, my responsibilities will be to propose a partnership with CWS to a local village leader, work with members of the community to build the water treatment center, train nominated women from the village to run the water business , and then do local household and business monitoring. Before entering the village, I will be trained in water quality testing and the CWS business implementation methods. The goal will be to have implemented a sustainable and successful water-treatment business by the time I leave, that will provide clean water, generate economic growth, and empower women in the community!
BUT I NEED YOUR HELP! As mentioned before, the capital necessary to establish these water businesses is generated through fundraising, and as a fellow I am responsible for raising $3,000!
Please help me in the endeavor- every donation makes a difference!
Donations are welcome on this website, but Crowdrise does take a small percentage of the funds raised on their site. If you would prefer to not have this deduction from your donation, please send a check to:
