Hello friends and family! This summer, I have the honor of playing in the 9th Annual BvB Dallas Powder-Puff Football Game as a "rookie" on the BRU CREW at the Cotton Bowl. I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful organization to work towards one goal: Tackling Alzheimer’s Disease forever!
BvB Dallas is a young-professional organization that hosts a powder-puff football game for a day of fun, fellowship, philanthropy and enjoyment as a way of raising money for Alzheimer’s research and awareness, locally. The teams, Blondes versus Brunettes, practice and raise money all summer in preparation for the big flag football game on August 13th at the Cotton Bowl.
As a medical professional, I have taken care of many patients with Alzheimer’s disease and have seen the effects that it has on them and their family members. Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging and is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Alzheimer’s has no current cure. I want to help those that are suffering from Alzheimer’s as well as preventing this horrid disease in the future.
With your help, BvB Dallas has been able to raise over $2.3 Million Dollars for Alzheimer’s research and care in North Texas over the past 8 years, but it's not enough. Did you know a staggering 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease today, which will cost the nation over $236 BILLION in 2016 alone. Your donation to BvB Dallas will go directly to those living with Alzheimer’s, and those fighting to find a cure.
So, where does the dough go? The 2016 beneficiaries are Baylor Neuroscience Center, Center for Brain Health, and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
UT Southwestern: UT Southwestern will provide training for a neuropsychology postdoctoral fellowship, to be named after BvB Dallas, in research and patient treatment related to Alzheimer’s disease.
Baylor AT&T Memory Center: Baylor will be conducting research with the goal of developing a blood or urine screen to detect Alzheimer’s vulnerability years before symptoms occur.
Center for BrainHealth: Findings from the Center for BrainHealth’s 2014 study, partially funded by BvB Dallas, suggest that strategy-based mental training may have far-reaching positive impacts. We are again supporting this study in its second phase, as it explores the impact of brain stimulation and utilizes advanced imaging techniques to understand the brain's response to training.
Any amount donated will help me and my team to reach our goal! A $25 donation gets you a ticket to the big game AND after party. I hope to see everyone there!
